Mahito decides to reveal his ultimate power, the Instant Spirit Body of Distorted Killing, but Yuji's Black Flashes and Divergent Fists wear the villain down. Eventually, Mahito runs out of energy, forcing him to flee from Yuji. Both the manga and anime depict this scene with brutal realism, representing Mahito as a helpless rabbit on the run from a ravenous wolf.

An absolute landmark moment in the JJK manga, this manga panel depicts Gojo awakening from his shocking brush with death unsuccessfully delivered by Toji Fushiguro. Instead of falling headlong to his demise, Gojo summons a fighting spirit, twists his body midair, and channels his reverse curse energy to heal his wounds in a flash.
Character | Age | Innate Technique | Domain Expansion | Japanese VA | English VA |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Satoru Gojo | 29 | Limitless | Unlimited Void | Yuichi Nakamura | Kaiji Tang |
Once Gojo regenerates his injuries, he also unlocks the full potential of his limitless curse power, effectively becoming the strongest sorcerer in the world. He also learns how to harness Hollow Purple, the most secret technique available to the Gojo clan. The manga panel's angelic and ethereal quality shines through as Gojo smiles and soars through the heavens as a newly enlightened sorcerer with the power and confidence to take anyone on.

13 Yuji Receives the Death Penalty from a Shikigami
Chapter 165, "Tokyo No. 1 Colony, Part 5"
With the sealing of Satoru Gojo and the death of Masamichi Yaga, the Jujutsu leaders make it open season on Yuji Itadori. With both his crime and sentence restored, Yuji now has to deal with people trying to kill him. At first, it appears like Yuta would finish the job, but that's nothing more than a feint — Yuta trusts Yuji because Gojo trusts Yuji. That said, a new character tries to execute during the Culling Game arc.
Character | Age | Innate Techniques | Japanese VA | English VA |
---|---|---|---|---|
Yuji Itadori | 15 | Blood Manipulation & Shrine | Junya Enoki | Adam McArthur |

Hiromi Higuruma, a former lawyer and current curse-user, decides to cast his Judgment jujutsu on Yuji. The Shikigami, named Judgeman, attempts to decide if Yuji's crimes deserve punishment. When Yuji willingly accepts the blame, Hiromi is shocked. However, Judgeman instantly gives Yuji the Death Penalty, a shocking manga panel for fans who want Yuji around for longer. Obviously this goes nowhere, but seeing the words "Death Penalty" is certainly disturbing.
12 The Stark Contrast Between Yuki and Kenjaku
Chapter 205, "Stars and Oil"
The fight between the mega-strong Jujutsu Kaisen characters Yuki and Kenjaku is the stuff of true manga legend. The battle is bolstered by several standout panels showcasing the sheer might and versatility of their powers, especially as they clash against each other. That said, few manga panels top the infamous "What a Pain" split image that shows how much the two characters are both different and alike.

Character | Innate Technique | Shikigami | Japanese VA | English VA |
---|---|---|---|---|
Yuki Tsukumo | Star Rage | Garuda | Noriko Hidaka | Anjali Kunapaneni |
Despite having opposing desires regarding the evolution of the curse techniques, mangaka Gege intimates how inevitably destined Yuki and Kenjaku are to seek each other out and fight to the death. Incredibly simple yet striking, the glaring opposition of blonde/dark hair, open/shut eyes, wide/closed mouths, scar/no scar, and earring/no earrings is quite inspired. There's also a sense of mordant humor that makes it stand out even more.
11 Toji Failed Because of His Pride & Ignorance
Chapter 75, "Hidden Inventory, Part 11"
✕ Remove Ads
Toji was ostracized from the Zenin Clan due to his lack of a cursed technique or cursed energy, for that matter. And yet, he was strong enough to theoretically crush the Zenins if he so wanted. However, Toji's immense pride made him stick around to fight Gojo after the latter awakened during their battle and gained newfound strength.
Character | Age | Special Feature | Japanese VA | English VA |
---|---|---|---|---|
Toji Fushiguro | Unknown | Heavenly Restriction | Takehito Koyasu | Nicolas Roye |
In a haunting panel that shows Toji at his lowest point, he's seen utterly defeated with a lopped-off left arm, a chunk missing from his torso, and bloody tears running down his face. The image of his battered worm reflects Toji's mental exhaustion and physical punishment. Interestingly, Toji openly admitted that the sinful pride he abandoned a long time ago ultimately came back to haunt him, demonstrating that even the most stubborn people can change.

10 Yuji's Sliced Face From Sukuna's Attacks
Chapter 214, "Fearsome Womb, Part 6"
Even without context, the disturbing image of Yuji following a brutal attack from Sukuna will resonate among fans and non-fans of Jujutsu Kaisen. The violent hatchwork and detailed sketching encapsulate the attack's vicious nature, and Yuji's determined expression underscores his relentlessness as one of anime's all-time most iconic characters.

The image has become so iconic that it's been colorized to vivify the intensity on Reddit, making for a great compare-and-contrast exercise with Gege's original black-and-white panel. No matter which version, the violent artwork punctuated by exploding geysers of gore leaves an indelible impression on readers, new and old. Although Yuji fails to get the best of Sukuna at this point, the image shows that he's willing to die trying.
9 Jogo Dares to Challenge Sukuna Himself
Chapter 116, "The Shibuya Incident, Part 34"
Another unforgettable moment in the Jujutsu Kaisen manga involves the epic battle between Jogo and the powerful Jujutsu Kaisen villain Ryomen Sukuna. The fight is set during the devastation of the Shibuya Incident arc. Jogo's bargain with Sukuna would see the powerful King of Curses joining their cause, but only if Jogo could get a single hit on Sukuna.

A fierce battle ensues where, unsurprisingly, Sukuna is well ahead of his opponent. Gege Akutami delivers a stunning panel-busting image that brilliantly captures the philosophical tenets of Yin-Yang. By showing Sukuna at the top right attacking across the screen to the reader's left alongside Jogo at the bottom attacking from right to left, the manga panel gives a striking contrapuntal expression between the two opposing forces.
8 *Kenjaku and Takaba Attack Each Other's Noses
Chapter 242, "Foolish Survivor —Flying High—"
✕ Remove Ads
Kenjaku arrogantly welcomes the challenge offered by Fumihiko Takaba, a new character and a wannabe comedian. Interestingly, it appears as though Takaba's Comedian, an Innate Technique awoken during the Culling Game, can bend and distort all facets of reality. Such an overwhelming power could also be handy against Sukuna, except Takaba doesn't even know just how strong he is.
Character | Age | Innate Technique | Debut |
---|---|---|---|
Fumihiko Takaba | 35 | Comedian | Chapter 146, "About the Culling Game" |
Using Comedian, Takaba can manifest a reality as long as he finds it humorous. As a result, he engages in a downright hilarious battle with Kenjaku. The villain pushes back, only for the surrounding environment to become even weirder. Comedian is theoretically on par with Satoru Gojo's Limitless, which means that even Kenjaku can't win this fight easily. Among all the amusing combat scenes, the manga panel that stands out is the one where Takaba and Kenjaku are digging into each other's noses.

7 Yuki Kicks Garuda at a Shocked Kenjaku
Chapter 205, "Stars and Oil"
Sticking with the all-time great fight between Yuki and Kenjaku, one of the best images comes when Yuki kicks her Garuda shikigami like a soccer ball across a battlefield to land a devastating blow to her archenemy. The split image is connected by a close-up of the Garuda spinning across the arena and casually exorcising Ganesha, the Special Grade Cursed Spirit summoned by Kenjaku using Geto's Innate Technique.

---|---|---|---|---|
Kenjaku | Brain Transplant | Womb Profusion | Takahiro Sakurai | Lex Lang |

In fact, Yuki kicks her shikigami at Kenjaku just as he's about to unleash Ganesha, rendering him powerless at just the right moment. The ferocity on Yuki's face is matched by Kenjaku's incredulous expression, leaving the latter to wonder something on the lines of "Did she just?" It's a great moment for Yuki, as well, punctuated by Gege's skilled shading, perspective, and flow.

In the hyper-violent Shibuya Incident arc, Sukuna notoriously feeds Yuji several fingers at once for the King of Curses to break away and wreak havoc. The best image during this arc appears when Sukuna razes a building and materializes his hellish Domain. With staggering detail, the eerie image of Sukuna proudly presiding over a macabre arena full of skulls, horns, and giant teeth speaks volumes about his wickedness.

Sukuna's poetic speech comparing his deadly wetwork to an artist painting on a canvas of air only makes the image more disturbing, providing insight into the antagonist's psychological state. Thanks to Gege Akutami's writing and artwork, the scale of the threat Sukuna poses feels convincing and daunting. Likewise, the grotesque and detailed background imagery emphasizes one of the Jujutsu Kaisen's strongest elements — supernatural horror.

5 Sukuna Reveals His Demonic True Form
Chapter 237, "Inhuman Makyo Shinjuku Showdown, Part 14"
As Yuji had consumed Sukuna's fingers, the King of Curses manifested in his host's body — albeit with extra eyes and tattoos. Even within Yuji's Innate Domain, Sukuna is depicted as a modified Yuji. As such, fans have been wondering what Sukuna looks like for a long time. Their prayers were answered in Chapter 237, although only after the death of Satoru Gojo. At this point, however, Sukuna had already switched Yuji's body for Megumi's.

Sukuna and the resurrected sorcerer Hajime Kashimo indulge in an explosive battle, with Kashimo's Mythical Beast Amber briefly overwhelming Sukuna. Having been weakened by Satoru Gojo and needing to defeat Kashimo, the King of Curses transforms into his original incarnation. 4 Fans Loved Seeing Nobara's Triumphant Return to Life
Chapter 267, "Inhuman Makyo Shinjuku Showdown, Part 38"
Nobara Kugisaki's "death" during the Shibuya Incident was widely criticized, as fans were brokenhearted to see Jujutsu Kaisen's Golden Trio split up. However, Aratta Nitta stated that his Innate Technique would prevent Nobara's condition from getting worse. He also added that Yuji shouldn't be holding out much hope, but fans clung on nevertheless. A beloved character without a confirmed death in an anime always leaves room for a comeback.

And that is exactly what happened with Nobara Kugisaki. In Chapter 267, a freshly recovered and eyepatch-wearing Nobara used her Resonance against the last of Sukuna's fingers. This attack weakened the villain and disrupted his Shrine while simultaneously making Yuji happy that his friend wasn't dead. Although she didn't get to do much for dozens of chapters, fans are pleased that she's still alive.
3 Megumi Summons Mahoraga at Great Risk
Chapter 117, "The Shibuya Incident, Part 35"
✕ Remove Ads
In Jujutsu Kaisen,Mahoraga is the most unpredictable shikigami in the Ten Shadows Technique. It can be summoned by Ten Shadow Technique users, but none of them have ever managed to exorcise it. As a result, Mahoraga is nothing more than a wild beast when it first appears. Among the most chilling panels in the series, Megumi summons Moharaga as a last resort against Haruta Shigemo.
Character | Species | Special Feature | Origin |
---|---|---|---|
Mahoraga | Shikigami | Universal Adaptation | Ten Shadows Technique |
The silhouette of the shadow wolves signaling the arrival of Mahoraga has a transcendent, majestic quality. The wolves point their noses upward to direct readers' attention to Mahoraga and its legendary sword, giving an otherworldly vibe to the image. Below, a 3D panel-busting close-up of Mahoraga and its crown as the wolves howl perfectly accentuates the image. The anime did this panel justice, adding a few extra features for panache.

2 Maki Becomes the Next Toji Fushiguro
Chapter 198, "Sakurajima Colony, Part 8"
There are few Jujutsu Kaisen characters with the same level of character development as Maki Zenin. Ridiculed for having near-zero cursed energy by her own family, Maki was an outcast for her entire life. That said, the only reason she was weak was revealed in the Perfect Preparation arc, which also highlighted her shocking development. After her identical twin Mai's death, Maki lost her minimal cursed energy.

She would even go toe-to-toe with Sukuna, earning his grudging respect. All things considered, however, the epic manga panel portraying Maki as equal to Toji appeared in Chapter 198.

By this time, the news of Gojo's death would have already been spoiled for most Jujutsu Kaisen fans. However, the strongest sorcerer in the world doesn't die without one of the most incredible fights in the series. Gojo takes on Sukuna in Megumi's body, although he prepares well in advance to take the King of Cursed by surprise. None of his initial tactics work, leaving Gojo no options but to unleash his Domain Expansion.

Although the chapter ends with Gojo's neck getting slashed, he doesn't die until much later.
