The events rolled out as Biden posted the video on X (formerly Twitter) on May 15, directly addressing Trump, writing, "Donald Trump lost two debates to me in 2020. Since then, he hasn’t shown up for a debate. Now he’s acting like he wants to debate me again. Well, make my day, pal."

Biden also made an X post confirming his acceptance of an invitation from CNN to debate on June 27 by tweeting "Over to you, Donald," and referencing Trump's previous statement about being willing to debate "anywhere, any time, any place."

Hours later, Trump accepted the challenge on Truth Social, and the debates were scheduled for June and September.

Highliting the back-and-forth exchange, Gutfeld pointed out that Biden's video had been spliced together with multiple cuts, counting five edits in the 13-second clip.

He joked, "Move over, Dirty Harry, and meet a dirty diaper," deploying one of his signature sarcastic remarks.

The host then suggested, "The real story is how many times they spliced Joe’s video together to get a single thought."

BBC has recently reported that if the president had chosen not to engage in debates with his Republican opponent, it would have marked a significant departure from the norm, as the last president to entirely bypass the debate process was Richard Nixon in 1972.

This decision would have been particularly noteworthy considering the ongoing concerns regarding his age and ability to serve another term. By avoiding the debates, there would have been a heightened risk of reinforcing doubts among the public about his readiness for the responsibilities of office.

When are the Biden-Trump debates scheduled?

The Commission on Presidential Debates revealed its schedule for the first debate in September and the subsequent two in October.

In contrast, Trump's campaign, after a contentious relationship with the commission in the 2020 election cycle, demanded the initiation of debates "now" and advocated for additional debates in a direct letter last month. The letter reiterated the campaign's allegations of bias against Trump during the 2020 debates.

Taking the news into consideration, Gutfeld then expressed skepticism about whether the debates would actually take place, asking his co-panelist Kat Timpf, “You believe this is actually happening? Is Biden being pushed to withdraw?”

Afterward, they replayed the video, tallying the total number of edits made, which amounted to five.

“Five cuts to get a 13-second video?” Gutfeld continued. “I guess they edited out all the times he lost his place, [redacted, redacted], and flatlined.”

Neither Gutfeld nor his guests acknowledged that rapid-cut editing is a trendy stylistic preference among younger audiences on platforms like TikTok and YouTube, possibly used as a display of skill or creativity.
