This sweet Chex mix recipe (oven baked) is the perfect snack for those chilly fall days. Pumpkin pie spice and brown sugar add the best flavor!

Why You Will Love This Recipe

One of my favorite things in the world is a crunchy snack. I love to munch on potato chips, crackers, and just about anything else that falls into that category. The easy recipe I’m sharing today is delicious and addicting, so watch out! This sweet and salty Chex mix recipe is a combination of sugar and spice…which in my book, is a match made in heaven. It’s the perfect treat for game day, movie night, holiday parties, and family gatherings. It calls for simple ingredients, all readily available at your grocery store.

Ingredient Notes + Variations

  • Salted butter or unsalted butter can be used.
  • This sweet Chex mix recipe can, of course, be adapted to any season. For Christmas, make sweet holiday Chex mix by adding red & green M & M’s. For the spring and summer months, add mini marshmallows, raisins, or Craisins.
  • More add-ins: coconut flakes, Reese’s pieces, dark chocolate chips, semi sweet chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, butterscotch chips.

How To Make

  • Preheat oven to 275 degrees F.
  • Line one large or two small cookie sheets with parchment paper. Set aside.
  • In a large bowl, add all the cereal pieces, pretzels, and peanuts. Set aside.
  • Put butter in a small microwave safe bowl. Melt butter in microwave, about 1 minute.
  • Add light brown sugar, vanilla extract, and pumpkin pie spice to the melted butter.
  • Stir very well and pour over the cereal mixture.
  • Gently toss the cereal/butter mixture until well mixed.
  • Pour cereal mixture onto prepared cookie sheet and spread out evenly in a single layer.
  • Bake for 45 minutes. Remove the cookie sheet from the oven every 15 minutes and toss the mixture so it bakes evenly.
  • Cool completely.
  • Add candy corn and toss so everything is mixed together.
  • Store in an air-tight container for up to 1 week.

Tips For The Best Sweet Chex Mix

  • This big batch of sweet Chex mix is lightly coated and very crunchy. If you would like a thicker coating, the ingredients can be increased. Just use 1/2 cup of butter, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 3 teaspoons of vanilla, and 3 teaspoons of pumpkin pie spice.
  • For a gluten-free snack: substitute gluten-free pretzels for regular pretzels, and usegluten-free candy corn. Thetraditional Brach’s candy cornis not gluten-free.
  • Store this Chex cereal mix at room temperature in an airtight container. It’s best when eaten in the first few days, but stays fresh for up to 2 weeks. If you want to make it in advance, it freezes very well. Put the mix in a resealable freezer bag, remove as much air as possible, and freeze for up to 2 months.
  • This recipe fits perfectly in four quart-size mason jars. (They also help with portion control!)
  • Tip from a reader: make it in the slow cooker! Cook it for 3 hours on low, stirring every hour, and then stir every 15 minutes the last hour.

This sweet and salty snack mix is a definite crowd pleaser. It satisfies your sweet tooth, but it’s also a great way to curb your urge for a crunchy snack.Try it out for your next party, or take a huge bowl to your next potluck. I promise it will be a huge hit!
