The Devil King is the most evil being in all of Ente Isla: a powerful monster who leads his demonic army on a path of destruction across the land. The only one who can match him is the Hero Emilia Justina, who beats him badly enough that he is forced to flee all the way to another world: Earth!

Now powerless in a human form, the Devil Kingadoptsthe name Sadao Maou and plans to take over Japan by climbing the corporate ladder...but for now, he's stuck working part-time at the fast-food chain MgRonald's. With the long-awaited Season 2 premiering July 14, fans will finally be able to see more of their favorite characters. Who is the most beloved among them, according to MyAnimeList?
Mitsuki Sarue (8 Favorites)
The natural predator of the Devil King is a soldier of Heaven, and the natural predator of a humble MgRonald's part-timer is the manager of aSentucky Fried Chicken restaurant. The Archangel Sariel, who takes the name Mitsuki Sarue on Earth, is both utter annoyances at once, to both Maou and Emi's endless frustration.

Unlike even Emi, who finds that she has more in common with Maou than she would like to admit, Mitsuki is Maou's opposite in every way. For instance, he is flashy and showy where Maou puts genuine effort into his fast-food work, and he flirts with every girl he sees where Maou is at best unconcerned and at worst baffled by human girls' attentions.
Rika Suzuki (11 Favorites)
While much of the comedy and heart of the show comes from the demons and Ente Isla humans interacting with each other, it wouldn't be complete without both sides connecting to Earth through friendships with the humans who know nothing of their true natures, caring only for them as people.

Rika works at the same call center that Emi finds a job at, and quickly befriends the struggling Hero. She becomes quickly protective of Emi, testing Maou to see if he's suited to be a good boyfriend to her. Emi, for her part, returns the favor by insisting that Rika never get involved in any demon-angel conflicts.
Mayumi Kisaki (11 Favorites)
Maou and Chiho's manager at MgRonald's, Kisaki takes great pride in their location's high success rate and fully intends to climb even higher in the business world. Maou, for his part, highly appreciates her drive to succeed: he worked his way up to the position of leader of the demon world much the same way, after all.
Kisaki is a tough boss, but a fair and reasonable one: despite Maou and Chiho making several mistakes, she gives them the chances and guidance they need since they are just starting out. She rewards Maou's impressive work ethic with several promotions, to his excitement.

Emeralda Etuva (16 Favorites)
While Maou falls to Earth with Ashiya to help him, Emi has Emeralda, one of the most loyal anime sidekicks. Once the greatest mage in Ente Isla, she is now trying to make sense of the ins and outs of Earth society for her boss' sake. She finds that this is much harder than even the most complicated spells and potions!
Emeralda may not be a big talker, but she is both cute and intensely loyal to Emi, which is clear even from her limited screen time. Emi is slow to trust and often prickly, but she calls Emeralda by the affectionate nickname Eme: not something she does for many other people!
Suzuno Kamazuki (213 Favorites)

Crestia Bell, who assumes the name Suzuno Kamazuki when she travels to Earth, is a member of the Reformation that fights against both Maou's army and the Church for the sake of peace on Ente Isla. Unlike Emi, who is devoted to a set of strict rules and morals, Suzuno has no qualms about resorting to underhanded tactics to achieve her goals.
Suzuno's knowledge of Earth is nowhere near as up-to-date as the rest of the characters'. She researched the entirely wrong century of Japan for pointers on how to act, and bases her attempts to blend in on samurai action films and period dramas. Realizing her error, she often tries to copy the behaviors of other characters.
Chiho Sasaki (503 Favorites)

Though the show is already incredibly lighthearted for a story about demons who laid waste to their entire home world, Chiho Sasaki is still a particularly bright spot in it. Maou's coworker at MgRonald's, she is perpetually sweet, optimistic, and almost as adorable as Anya fromSpy x Family.
Fans like her not only for her ongoing crush on Maou (which he is bewildered by), but for her determination to convince all the humans, demons, and angels in the room to get along come hell or high water. She may be just an average human, but there is no one who believes in love so fervently.
Shirou Ashiya (664 Favorites)
A Devil King couldn't ask for a better right hand than Alciel, who adopts the human name Shirou Ashiya and is one of the strongest anime sidekicks. Once a great general in Maou's demonic army, he is now devoted to the running of their household and is most of the reason that their group is successfully functioning on Earth at all.

Ashiya's undying loyalty to Maou and his impressive competence are a huge part of what makes him a fan favorite, but his intense approach to mundane situations and his tendency to be the only reasonable one in the room means that he gets a ton of laughs from audiences as well.
Urushihara Hanzou (939 Favorites)
While Maou is the all-powerful Devil King, it's Urushihara that once bore the name Lucifer. He is a fallen angel that abandoned Heaven to defect to Maou's army and tries to usurp his king as well, thinking he is helpless in human form. Maou handily proves him wrong, and the only reason that Urushihara becomes the resident NEET instead of a splat on the ground is that this is a happy action-comedy animelikeSpy x Family.

Fans love Urushihara for his many-sided comic relief potential. Between his amorality and eagerness to cause the most chaos as possible at any given moment, and the laziness and affinity for human technology that often prevents him from following through, there is always humor to be found in his scenes.
Emi Yusa (1,086 Favorites)
A half-angel raised by the Church to be the ultimate good to Maou's ultimate evil, Emilia Justina (known on Earth as Emi Yusa) is burning to defeat the Devil King that she holds responsible for the death of her father and the peril of her world. After forcing Maou to retreat to another world, she follows him to Earth to finish what she started on Ente Isla, but finds herself depowered and in over her head as she tries to adjust to life here.

She is popular among fans for her great strength and her determination to do what is right no matter what, as well as her humorous quickness to frustration. She is highly suspicious of and hostile towards Maou at first, but comes to realize that he is nowhere near as evil as she thought, and the two eventually become uneasy friends.
Sadao Maou (3,304 Favorites)
Emi would be furious and Ashiya ecstatic to see it: the show's resident Devil King absolutely runs away with the popularity contest! Maou is an excellent protagonist for this story.Since his nature as a demon is not inherently cruel or sadistic, but ambitious, this means that it manifests as Maou putting his all into everything he does, whether it's leading a demon army, learning about Earth, or working part-time at MgRonald's.

Though his powers are fueled by the fear and despair of those around him, Maou is intensely friendly and optimistic. Not only is he willing to befriend former enemies like Emi and Urushihara, but he is extremely aware of how much he owes his underlings and is intensely loyal to and protective of his friends.
